Our October Journey
The Ancestral
World
Tending the ecosystem of our roots: memory, nourishment, and belonging.

At The Feet of our Ancestors
Our roots are living relationships. They can be remembered, listened to, and tended. As we give them our attention, we may begin to sense the larger family and living world to which we belong.
There are times when we feel far from the people and places that have shaped us. We may know only fragments of our family stories, or feel unsure how to approach the ancestors at all. Still, our lives grow within a larger web of relationships. Roots reach through generations, through land, through the plants and practices that have sustained our communities.
This October, we will spend time at the feet of our ancestors. We will ask what becomes possible when we begin to sense that web, learn from it, and tend it in return.
At the Feet of Our Ancestors brings together archaeology, Maya cosmology, an ancestral teaching with Nana Lucy, and a shared practice of remembrance. Each offering opens a different part of the inquiry. You can join the full journey or enter through an individual gathering.

Join our family altar
We’ll gather for two live teachings: Cacao, the Elixir of Xibalba and an ancestral teaching with Nana Lucy. We’ll also move through Flowers of Our Ancestors, a recorded journey with practices and shared conversation.
You can join in the way that feels right for you:
-
Complete October journey: $72 for all three offerings
-
Drop in to either live teaching: $25 each
-
Flowers of Our Ancestors on its own: $35
Whether you come for one gathering or the full journey, you’re welcome at the table.
Our Journey ahead
CACAO;
THE ELIXIR OF XIBALBA
Through cacao, maize, and archaeological accounts of Pakal, we’ll explore how the Postclassic Maya understood the ancestral world and the life that emerges from the depths.
This class enters the archaeological and anthropological record to explore cacao’s relationship with death, burial, the ancestral world, and regeneration. We will look closely at evidence from ancient Maya mortuary contexts and at Classic Maya images in which cacao participates in the transformation of the dead.
